Description

Technical role of stainless steel flexible joints in piping systems

In industrial production lines and building M&E systems, pipelines are constantly subjected to thrust forces, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical vibrations generated by operating equipment. Without a compensation solution, accumulated stress can crack welds or deform valve flanges. Flanged flexible joints are designed as flexible expansion points, helping to dampen vibrations from pumps, reduce noise propagation, and handle minor misalignments within a permissible limit of approximately 3.17 mm (1/8 inch).

Structural characteristics and operating principle

The main components of the device include a corrugated annular stainless steel hose, externally covered with a high-strength braided wire mesh. This combination provides high pressure resistance and maintains durability when operating across a wide temperature range. The elasticity of the corrugations allows the hose to bend or expand/contract along the longitudinal axis when the system starts or stops abruptly.

  • Hose body: Standard 304 stainless steel, with an option to upgrade to 316 stainless steel based on chemical environment requirements.
  • Braided layer: Enhances internal pressure resistance and prevents hose bulging.
  • Connection type: Sturdily fabricated flanges, easy to install into valve and pump systems.

Guidelines for selecting and installing flanged flexible joints

To ensure the equipment achieves maximum service life, engineers should note several important technical factors during the design and construction process:

  1. Accurately determine the installation length based on the actual expansion and contraction amplitude of the pipeline.
  2. Do not use flexible joints to compensate for installation misalignments that exceed the manufacturer's design limits.
  3. Secure adjacent rigid pipe sections with hangers or supports so that the weight of the pipeline is not placed directly on the flexible hose section.
  4. Thoroughly check the flange surfaces and gaskets before tightening bolts to prevent fluid leakage.

Production process and quality control at Tan Dat workshop

At the Tan Dat workshop (HCMC), our flexible joints and stainless steel flexible hoses are fabricated according to the specific technical parameters of each project. We accept production based on the dimensions, lengths, and materials required by the system. Before leaving the factory, all products undergo a pressure testing process to ensure stable operation and meticulous visual inspection.

Practical applications in industry

Thanks to their durable mechanical properties, this product line is widely applied in:

  • Urban water supply and drainage systems and booster pump stations.
  • Fire protection (PCCC) systems for high-rise buildings.
  • Steam and hot water pipelines in thermal power plants, textile dyeing, and chemical factories.

Frequently asked questions about flanged flexible joints

What pressure can stainless steel flexible joints withstand?
Common single-braided stainless steel flexible joints operate at PN10 – PN16 (10 – 16 bar). For higher pressures, Tan Dat fabricates double-braided types or increases the corrugated hose thickness according to design specifications.
Should I choose 304 or 316 stainless steel flexible joints?
Stainless steel 304 is suitable for most water, steam, and gas systems. Stainless steel 316 contains molybdenum for better corrosion resistance, making it ideal for chemicals, seawater, wastewater, or coastal environments.
Does Tan Dat custom-make flexible joints with specific lengths and flange types?
Yes. We manufacture directly and accept custom orders for any length, DN15 – DN300 (larger upon request), with JIS, BS, ANSI, DIN flanges, threaded ends, unions, and clamps. Call 0906 304 114 for a quotation.

Technical assessment Tan Dat Flex engineering team

Pipe flexible joint – vibration damper belongs to our flanged flexible joints range. Material: 304 stainless steel (316 on request). Our engineers recommend it when you need this: flanged ends are quick to install and remove for maintenance. For the longest service life, choose the right specification and follow the installation guide.

Strengths
  • Flanged ends are quick to install and remove for maintenance
  • Isolates vibration from pumps, compressors and chillers, reducing weld cracks and pipe noise
  • Durable stainless steel that withstands heat and rust in normal service
  • Made to order in the size, end connection and material your project needs
Selection & installation notes
  • Confirm the flange standard (JIS, BS, ANSI, DIN) and bolt pattern to match the existing pipeline
  • Install as close as possible to the vibration source; do not use the joint to correct large misalignment
  • For chloride, sea water or strong chemicals consider upgrading to SS316
  • When ordering, share pressure, temperature, medium and installation size for an accurate quotation
